Tidal Cove Scarf

This scarf was inspired by the tidal cove across from my home. Three-dimensional folds give it an almost organic form, while also representing the rhythmic movement of the sea as the tide comes and goes. It is an engaging and deceptively easy knit, and the basic folding technique can be endlessly varied. In colorful dk cotton you can wear this accent scarf year round, but the pattern is also easy to modify for other weights of yarns, as well as different widths and lengths.

This pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner knitter who wants to try something new. Skills required include casting on, knitting, binding off (casting off), and counting rows in garter stitch. The pattern consists of three pages with detailed photos and has been professionally tech edited and thoroughly test knit.

Sizes: One size, easily altered.

Finished Measurements:
4 in/ 10cm wide. Length is up to the knitter. Scarf shown is 45 in/115 cm long. Scarf will tend to stretch length-wise when worn.

Gauge:
18 sts and 36 rows/ 4in measured over garter st unstretched.

What You Need:
✦ 270 yds of dk weight yarn. The sample shown used two 50g skeins Cascade Cotton Rich DK (64% cotton, 36% nylon, 135 yds/124 m, color #5800).
✦ One circular needle 16 in/ 40 cm long, and one pair of straight needles (2 dpns work also) in size required to obtain gauge. I used US #6/ 4mm. You may need a size or two above or below that.
✦ 2 different color clip-on style markers.
✦ Optional: Assorted beads, charms,
feathers, shells, tassels, or other fun stuff to adorn your scarf. Sample uses beads saved from a broken necklace!
