Spiral Style Mittens

A perfect match for my Spiral Style Hat (see last photo), these mittens require no cabling to form colorful spirals that stand out against their striped background – and you use only one color at a time!

This pattern is geared toward the intermediate knitter who is familiar with knitting in the round on double point needles. The main pattern pdf is three pages long and includes a charted form of the design. For those who prefer the chart design to be written out there is a second pdf included. This pattern has been professionally tech edited and fully test knit to be clear and free of errors.

Sizes: S (M, XL), approximately women’s small (women’s medium, men’s medium) Shown in size M. Note that spirals are placed slightly differently on different sizes.

Finished Measurements: Finished mitten circumference: 6 3/4 (7 1/2, 8 1/2) in/ 17 (19, 21.5) cm
Finished mitten hand length from wrist bone to tip (no cuff): 7 1/2 (8, 9 1/2) in/ 19 (20.5, 24) cm.
Hand length can be adjusted by beginning with a different round of the chart.

Gauge: 21 sts and 37 rnds/4 in/10 cm over slip stitch pattern in the rnd. (Choose a yarn and needles that give you approximately 20 sts and 28 rnds/4 in/ 10 cm on a stockinette swatch.)

What You Need:
✦ Worsted weight yarn in two colors:

• MC (forms the spirals): 1 1/4 (1 1/2, 2) oz/ 35 (43, 57) g, approximately 77 (95, 125) yards/ 71 (87, 115) meters. Sample shown in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes, 100% wool, 110 yd/50g, color “Pumpkin”. Takes 1 (1, 2) skeins.
• CC:1 1/4 (1 1/2, 2) oz/ 35 (43, 57) g, approximately 77 (95, 125) yards/ 71 (87, 115) meters. Sample shown in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes, 100% wool, 110 yd/50g, color “Artic Pool Heather”. Takes 1 (1, 2) skeins.

✦ One set of dpns in size required to obtain gauge. I used US #5/ 3.75 mm. You may need a size or two above or below that.
✦ One set of dpns two US sizes smaller than needles used for gauge. I used a US #3/ 3.25 mm.
✦ Two stitch markers.
✦ Optional: 3 (3, 4) markers for dividing pattern sections.
✦ Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
